Sometimes we receive requests for updated information about our current policies on receiving visitors and guests at the Abbey.
Unfortunately these days the hoped-for process of opening up is scarcely moving forward. Quite considerable restrictions on guests and visitors remain necessary, in order to conform to current civil and ecclesiastical law, and also to protect vulnerable members of the community from infection.
Members of the public may come to Mass at Pluscarden Abbey at 9.00 a.m. on a weekday, or at 8.00 a.m. on a Sunday: but only on condition that they first book in via our booking form (here), and receive a reply confirming that they can come.
Mass-goers will be asked to sanitise their hands on entry, to occupy a seat as indicated, to wear a face mask, to maintain social distance, to refrain from singing, not to congregate in a tight group outside the Church after the Mass.
Visitors are free to come up the front drive any time and look around, but at present it remains impossible for them to enter the Church buildings.
Our guest houses were not designed to accommodate people living under coronavirus restrictions.
In present circumstances, the community is therefore able to accept one or two resident guests at a time, but no more than this. Guests are not currently able to eat with the community. Those wishing to come and stay remain free to make enquiries to our guest master, but much patience is asked for, since it's foreseeable that very often there will simply be no room available.
Our shop is open (please only two people inside at a time).
Confessions are available at call, as usual, but are best heard these days out of doors.
