Our resident artist Philip Chatfield has been working hard on various sculptures to adorn the rising St. Joseph's Guest House.
Before Christmas he completed a large reproduction in stone of the Mediaeval Pluscarden Monastery Seal; also a text for the front of the house: "Redemptoris custos, ora pro nobis" - "Guardian of the Redeemer, pray for us"
Philip's open air workshop became less practicable in very cold weather, so he re-located to our wood work shop. There he set to work carving wooden cemetery crosses. These crosses have been made from oak, by our Br. Daniel, with the invaluable assistance of Robin Campbell-Johnson. They are designed to resist the entry of water into joints; also now provided with a cap, to help preserve them from direct rain fall. Several of our older cemetery crosses are needing now to be replaced entirely. Philip has been carving the lettering. His work here, as elsewhere, is very fine, and we hope will remain legible for many decades to come.
