In September 2019 the Chapter of the Province of Monasteries to which Pluscarden belongs met at Montserrat in Spain. This was the regular Provincial Chapter, held according to our Constitutions once every four years. These Provincial Chapters are presided over by the Abbot Visitor, and attended by all the Superiors of the monasteries of the Province, and also the elected delegates, and some others.

At this Chapter, Dom Cuthbert Brogan, Abbot of Farnborough Abbey, was elected as Visitor.

This election will effect Pluscarden in various ways. In the first place we can expect Abbot Cuthbert to carry out the canonical Visitations of Pluscarden, which should happen every three years.

Abbot Cuthbert's election also means that, after 16 years in Office, our own Fr. Abbot Anselm Atkinson now steps down as Visitor. This should have a very significant impact on the Pluscarden community, because his role of Visitor has involved many and lengthy absences from the community, with much global travel. It is a relief to us here that now someone else will be available for that work!
