The Twenty Fifth in our series of Pentecost lectures was given this year by the Oxford-based Dominican Scripture scholar Fr. Richard Ounsworth O.P.
Fr. Richard gave four lectures on the Letter to the Hebrews. These lectures were received with very great appreciation by the audience, which as usual filled the large room at St. Scholastica's Ladies' Retreat. Fr. Richard spoke entirely without notes, without ever losing fluency or coherence, so that his sometimes rather difficult subject remained always both accessible and fascinating.
Next year's lectures are set for Tuesday 11, Weds 12 & Thursday 13 June 2019. Our speaker is to be Fr. Martin Boland. He is a pastoral Priest, rather than an academic theologian; at present he acts as Administrator of Brentwood Cathedral. His suggested subject (to be confirmed) is the ugliness of secularism, in comparison to the redemptive beauty of Christ revealed to us through the beauty of His bride, the Catholic Church.
