Two large and stunningly beautiful new icons have been commissioned by generous benefactors for our Church.
They have been installed in the Transepts, facing the West doors to the Nave. They are located behind the glass windows in the new doors underneath the Blessed Sacrament and the large Crucifixion scene, at the crossing between Transept and Choir. The work of Maria Manuela Guerreiro, they represent the Archangels Gabriel and Michael.
Our Transepts already inspire a sense of God's presence and glory by their soaring height and fine architecture. In mediaeval times they would have been decorated by bright mural paintings: now only rather dimly visible in some places. May the holy Angels draw our many visitors to a true encounter here with the God of Heaven, whose holiness they ceaselessly sing.
